Plans to run a comp (aka king of the gym) are have been etched in the tombstone. SUNDAY, AUGUST 1st at 9:30 PM! Don't worry about working out, training and all that other bullshit(unless you really want to?!) 21 problems will be set on the boulder and a score will be issued to climb as many as you can. A cash prize awaits the send of the hardest problems. The only categories will be Male and Female. Climb as much as you can and climb what you can. the harder problems will have individual point values per hold ( that means that even if you are not that strong to pull the send out of your but on the harder problems, you gain some extra points on your brethen by getting as far as you can. The comp will be done in the typical format: Redpoint. If you have any questions, contact Scott in the gym. Come to have fun... come to get spanked... come to get some. Don't worry making a fool out of yourselves( its that kinda comp).
Sandbaggers beware!!!! You might get a wake up call here!

AUGUST 1ST. 9:30PM KING OF THE GYM.
COME ONE..COME ALL....
Here is the progress report as of thursday morning:
we achieved our goal of 21 problems as of wednesday night, but because of our creative juices that have just been oozing, we are going for a bit more. I'm not going to give a number becuase i don't want to jinx our progress, but everything else will remain the same. Every climber that we can think of who pulls down within our humid vessel has been thought of in every regards in terms of ability...so i'm saying that there will be alot for everyone. Right now we (the setters) are extremely excited about our easier problems. They've turned out to be really fun.
Again, this is not any kind of professional or amateur competition sanctioned by anyone but VBRG. It's fun! No stress...don't worry about being "good" or not good enough. who gives a sh_t? if you like to climb, so up August 1, 2004 at 9:30 in the PM in VBRG. 10 bucks gets you in. 5 bucks if you are member. See you then.

 |
|
OK GUYS, HERE'S THE DEAL...
The final count on problems is almost double what we had anticpated. the purple monster has a lot of area to cover and we tried our best to do just that. as of Friday night, we concluded setting at 40 problems. ..40 really good problems.
A big thank you goes out to Steve Flannagan, Chris Berquist, Special K, Britton Van Vleek and David Narr for your assistance and creativity.
AWARDS
It has been a long time since the last king of the gym has been around (2 years), so I decided to something a little different from the years past when KOG flurished monthly in our gym. the winners (male and female) will leave the gym donned in the VBRG special edition King of Gym sport coat (much like the masters tourney in golf). A prestigous event to be witnessed indeed.
the winners will also be responsible for handing down the trophy to the winners that will follow at the KOG.
Good luck to you all in the chase for the most awesome trophy ever to be claimed by any one man or woman in climbing history.....ever. we're gonna have some fun.
Tape and chalk will readily available to customers at the front counter. Make sure that you have both. some of the more "SPICY" routes show a less love than I actually anticipated.
See you Domingo
Ciao,
The Dominican

I certainly had a good time. I was a little apprehensive about the time of day but it really worked out well. Everyone there either climbed or got out of the way. It also didn't feel like a sauna.
....and everybody knows ou can't beat the beta from a friendly comp. |

What a great idea and a great way to get our asses together in one place at one time and "hang!" I regret not participating (nap time wasn't long enough at the ol' folks home...) but tried the routes yesterday and enjoyed the new challenges.
Where were all the chicks anway?! And I am wondering why we don't have a chick setting routes? Are the men too proud to teach a girlie how to make the magic happen? Afraid our routes might be more popular?
Anyway, thanks to all the dudes that did work hard to set the routes. |
