I'm heading to Cordova, AK in October to do some hiking, camping and fishing with the gf? Does anyone know of any good, relatively easy climbs or spots to boulder nearby or at least within a reasonable distance?
For the geographically challenged, Cordova is located at the southern end of AK on the coast of Prince William Sound along the Copper River. There are NO roads that lead into the town. You have to either (A) take a long _ss ferry trip to Anchorage or (B) fly in to "Mudhole Airport" (That's the name I kid you not).
I'll try to snap some pictures for ya'll from the top of some kick _ss glaciers. Lata. |

Personally I have no experience/knowledge of Alaskan climbing, but you might want to throw a post up at www.rockclimbing.com. Somebody there can probably help.
Good luck |

I have family that lives in anchorage, so all my climbing has been done in that area on the infamous chugach choss and up in the mat valley. I never heard of any climbing in cordova. I know of some in and around valdez. If you have time go into AMH on spenard (next to the REI) in anchorage. They are a great bunch of guys and have great local beta. Also remember that it is alaska, so you there is the potential to have a place to climb almost anywhere. Good luck and you'll have a great time.
PS- Cordova is a small town (my family commercial fished out of there in the 70's & 80's) but is a great place to visit |
