I am planning on getting certified to belay at VB Rock gym. I'm pretty new to rock climbing. I have always been interested in the sport but just recently got a chance to try it out. Now, I am hooked!!!! icon_biggrin.gif So, I was wondering is it best to take a couple of classes or find an experience partner to climb with?

Also is it best to have you own equipment? I'm pretty sure the answer to that is "yes." But, I just wanted some input.

Thank You.

Find an experienced partner and learn from them. Also buy your own harness, shoes (more comfortable), belay device and chalk bag. Worry about the other gear later. HAVE FUN.

Thanks for your help. Are there any harness that you would recommend for beginners? Also, where is the best place to buy one?

Try some of the harnesses they have there at the gym, the momentum, by Black Diamond is a good harness... not expensive... the staff can help with the shoes, but a nice combo shoe would be best to start with till you determine what works best for you... as with all gear... some works better for others and not so for some... trial and error... it's all part of the fun... =)
