The promote the new forum, i'd thought i take a stab at leaving a semi-controversial subject posted for you plasticheads to marinate the mind upon...
a week has past since our beloved Abs competition and 1o year anniversary has past at the VBRG....the routes were good (or so every everone said), the booty was good, pizza, bagels, tee- shirts, and good times... but it was voiced a few days later by several people that there were a few who did not enjoy the day... but with no substancial reasoning or rationale... just simply bad vibes relayed to other fellow climbers because it wasn't something they expected or were prepared for.
Because the attitude of these particulars has always had a consistent negative tone within gym atmosphere... ( and if there is anything I can't stand... it's me hearing about persons spraying and dropping bad vibes through the gym.) I feel it is a priveledge and damn near duty to let these assasins of good, wholesome climbing in on a few things...
Firstly,
Let me just say that if i hear that you verbally trashed the comp, the routes, or anything that involved almost six months of hard work by several people just once more and i will hurt your feelings...
Secondly,
While so busy frothing at the mouth streaming incorrect crap beta, showing everyone how to climb perfectly as you do(not) ,you might want to bestow the gift of perfect spotting to your peoples as you do so masterfully, beta king. You and your crew were most ill-respnsive to others climbing around you...a person was injured(minor) as a result to your people's savvy skills on the spot (again, not)...for that...you straight suck.
Thirdly,
If you have so many voiced problems with VBRG or the people within, my answer to you is this:
91 miles....
your probably asking yourself what that means? Simple, my comrade spraylords...it is how many miles you will have to drive to next gym if dislike ours soo much. Remember, you do have options.
and P.S.
just close your mouth....all you DO is talk, criticize, and leave...everytime you come in... being condesending to others about crap you have done vs. them does not make you better..(there are climbers in the gym that have been climbing a month and are already at your level, chief.) so be very careful about who you chose to speak on the matters of expertise, hombre.
For about 4 months you have critcized the integrity of the gym and the caliber of people who climb within its doors. You and others you bring have done nothing but bring a negative, arrogant, and cold tone... and frankly, I have had enough of it.
if it were not for the people who climb in VBRG, old and new, I wouldn't be the climber I am today....a climber who IS better than you.
have a nice day.
Huge Thanks to:
Tom, Mel, Rachael, Berq, Davo, Griff, Andrew and Lisa, Justin, Leo, Flannagan, Flash Tinsley, everone who was at the comp, and everyone who drops homage at VBRG.

whew! For a minute I thought you were talking about me, but when I read that you are "a climber who IS better than [me]" I knew it couldn't be about me.
Have no fear, the forum will most definitely become the new home for the VBRG spraylord a.k.a. the cyber-sprayer, since it is a whole lot easier to tell lies when you're not looking someone in the face.
Lets analyze and define spraying:
Spraying is a part of climbing and will always exist. Spraying comes in different forms. Some might even say that you (The Dominican) are spraying in this post because you're claiming to be better than the mystery man (even though we all know you are better). Everyone likes to get recognition for their accomplishments and its natural to want to tell someone when you do something that you are proud of. This would be the minor form of spraying...telling a friend that you sent a hard problem. There is no real harm in this, but it is still a type of spraying. One step up from this would be "loud" spraying...telling random, disinterested groups of people, running around the gym/crag telling people that you don't even know. Again the biggest problem is that people don't appreciate your accomplishments when you do this, they just think you are a jackass. Next there is the "stealth" spray. This is an attempt to spray without looking like you are spraying. Example: climber #1 - "Have you done the pink problem in the cave?" climber #2 - "yea it reminds me of that 5.14 I sent at the gorge last week". Again other than looking like an idiot, there is no harm. All of these types of spraying can be taken to the next level but exaggerating the accomplishment or by just straight up lying. This is where people really start to piss people off and where harm can be done. When another climber believes your spray and trusts you for information or trusts your ability, they can get hurt. Example: sprayer - "I have done a ton of multi-pitch routes" newbie - "great, can you take me up one" sprayer (trying to not blow his cover) - "umm, yea, I guess" end of (true) story - Epic in Red Rocks. Lastly and most humorous are the third party and proximity sprayers. These folks realize that their accomplishments are not news worthy so they either spray about someone else or try to impress people by knowing/meeting/touching/stalking/etc. someone who is newsworthy. Example: sprayer - "I was down at Hueco and I spotted Fred Nicole when he climbed Slashface".
Warning to sprayers:
I understand the enthusiasm to get recognition for your accomplishments but remember with recognition comes expectations. If you tell everyone what a badass you are, you had better be able to produce or pull out your list of pre-written excuses.
Sorry for the long post, but here is the finally thought:
Climb for fun and for yourself. If you climb so that other people think you are cool, you're missing the point of climbing. If you climb to be better than someone else, remember that there will always be somebody better than you no matter how good you get. If your goal is to be the best climber in Virginia Beach, you need to get out more.
OK, I need to get up to the Buttermilks and send this killer V14 project that I spotted Chris Sharma on the day after I sent the Mandala. It reminds me of the moves on the Buttermilker only harder. Oh yea and I accidently touched Lisa Rands boob when I was spotting her so its almost like we're dating. |

Sweet Jesus, man!
the prodical administrator arises from a busted _ss uhaul and a mound of boxes. Yeah.....so maybe you are better than me (you're only responsible for teaching me everything I've learned in the sport), but have you climbed in Bountiful,UT? I have!
the rare and elusive species of the sprayer.
the nomad sprayer - one who relocates to a different crag/area and sprays to an individual/group about climbs or other people
the individual/group knows signifcantly. (the climbing community is really small.)
the inclusive sprayer - one who spots a person on a harder send and gives themself credit for the send as well.
Have fun milkin' Jeff in the milks dude!

the inclusive sprayer can also be known as the send-by-association sprayer. these creatures can sometimes be seen at ones' local gym or crag. these creatures are often found on the belay end of a rope, close proximity to a crashpad, or sometimes simply grazing in close proximity of skilled climbing individuals. beware of such creatures, once they have found a constant source of sends, they may require much work to exterminate.
also i must make mention of the obscurity sprayer. such beings simply try to take credit for sends by not being specific about their success(or mostly lack thereof) during a climbing day. often not a very loud or boisterous being, they can commonly be spotted in small gatherings. the obscurity sprayer can be identified as a frequent center of attention in a relaxed conversational atmosphere.
i am busdriver, and for all the folks at Wild America and the VBRG forum, good night and thanks for reading. |

But yea, the weather is nice...You know, I was thinking maybe this was the same deer chasing people's cars on the road to the 7 gates of hell. Maybe. |

The 7 Gates of Hell is a real place. It was a wolf, not a deer. |

Maybe we ought to take a couple crashpads over to one of these 7 gates and start a wicked bouldering session. We'll just keep an eye out for the deer...or wolf. |
